Robinia is indigenous to the south-eastern region of the USA. Ranking after eucalyptus and poplar trees, today, the robinia tree is the most frequently cultivated deciduous tree in the world. Predominantly with the goal to improve the soil (high nitrogen levels) and to prevent erosion. Retimbering of stock with the purpose to produce wood exists mainly in south-eastern Europe, largest regions being in Hungary and Romania. All Robinia wood used by our suppliers is FSC certified (Forest Stewardship Council).
Robinia wood naturally repels insects, moss and rot because of its inherent acidic properties. This wood is untreated making it the perfect complement to the playground environment. The surface is pleasant to the touch and does not splinter. Robinia wood is extremely durable and can be thermally recycled or be composted.
Kaiser & Kuhne has optimized the laminated wood in collaboration with a research project.
The KAROLAM® Acacia laminated wood combines all advantages of durable wood , without adopting the natural growth failure of Robinia.
Most of the galvanized steel that our manufacturers offer is available in powder coated or coated in a 2-component polyurethane finish.
Kraiburg, “EuroFlex” rubber surfacing, has no waste in their production process as all material goes back in the production cycles for other products.
All recycled rubber used by Kraiburg are from tires that originate in Europe and are supplied by only well-known sources. This allows for tight quality control and material consistency. The Swiss EPDM rubber is of the highest quality and has excellent UV protection for long lasting vibrant colors.
Our manufacturers use a high quality stainless steel grade 304 which is used throughout all type of industries.
All stainless steel is iron-based alloy, i. e. the iron (Fe) content amounts to at least 50%. Steel is classified to be “stainless” if it does not rust after it has been in contact with water or humid air even after a prolonged period of time. Rust itself mainly consists of a combination of iron hydroxide (Fe OH3) and iron oxides.
Stainless steel owes its rust-resistant quality mainly to the alloy metal chromium (Cr). Chromium forms chromium oxide on the surface of the steel and results in a so-called passive condition, i. e. the electrochemical property of the steel surface is similar to that of precious metal, such as silver, platinum or gold. Additionally, nickel (Ni) increases the general strength and resistance to corrosion.
Our manufacturers generally use the chromium-nickel alloyed quality with the material no. 1.4301. When compared to chromium steel it shows a significantly improved resistance to corrosion.
Stainless steel is – with the exception of reducing acids and chlorine containing agents – resistant to corrosion, and above all does not need additional surface treatment, once it has been glass bead blasted. The raw material and energy-intensive manufacture yields an almost perfect recycle-ability of materials.
Most of our manufacturers use stainless steel polished by a process of glass bead blasting. The glass bead blasting substances applied are absolutely free of harmful substances and friendly to the environment. The polished stainless steel gives an attractive shine that will last for a lifetime.
